About me… spiritually

Baptized a Catholic, but converted to Methodism when my family moved to Columbus, OH, I attended a life-changing Walk to Emmaus when I was in my 30s, and continued to worship in conservative evangelical environment until I realized that I need a more progressive interpretation of the Bible. I am a member of a United Church of Christ congregation, but have deconstructed my faith and reconstructed so that I honestly struggle with the term Christian.

I consider myself a “follower of Jesus” and have found deep meaning in Buddhist traditions, as well as the contemplative silence of Quaker meetings. I see myself as a life-long seeker who believes that multiple paths lead to the Divine.

About me… personally

I immigrated from Cuba to the United States when I was almost five. I grew up on the east side of Columbus, where I met my wife of more than 40 years. We have three children and five grandchildren.

I am a values-driven individual with an emphasis on:

  • balance

  • authenticity

  • vulnerability and

  • transparency.

My personal mission is to do justice. love mercy, walk humbly. My personal vision is that all voices are heard and valued.

About me… professionally

I had the privilege of learning from one of the most creative people I’ve ever met in my first job out of college before moving to a Fortune 100 company where my career was focused on communications and human resources.

My career has given me the chance to hone expertise in the areas of:

  • strategy development,

  • change management,

  • organizational culture,

  • diversity and inclusion, and

  • individual, leader and team effectiveness.

I currently serve as executive director of the Spirituality Network where my journey toward wholeness continues.

About me… civically

I have a deep drive to give back, probably due to the impact of having a Methodist church sponsor my family to move from Miami to Columbus and helping us with a furnished place to live, food to eat, and employment for my father.

I gravitate toward leadership roles in the service work I do.

My passion for justice, equity, diversity and inclusion permeate the way I give back to my community.
